011 | The simple cure to fear.

One Thought 🧠

Action.

That’s all there is to it. Anything you fear can be overcome with action. Now I’m not talking about any medical phobias or previous traumatic experiences, but the type of fear that traps us all into achieving less and pursuing less. This is the type of fear that prevents us from starting a blog, starting a side-hustle, changing careers, doing an uncomfortable thing, etc.

There’s a single mindset that I always tell myself these days:

The second-best day is today. The first was yesterday.

This is it. You have to stop pondering and just get it done. Naturally, the second time is objectively easier as you’ve been through the experience once before. But in order for there to be a second time, there must be a first. It may still be fricking nerve-wracking and feel impossibly difficult, but it will be a tiny bit easier and that’s what matters. Keep doing this, again and again, eventually, the fear complex will flatten, the process will become natural and the confidence will blossom.

Here’s a quote from one of the greatest inventors:

“Most people never pick up the phone. Most people never call and ask. And that’s what separates sometimes the people who do things from those who just dream about them. You gotta act. You gotta be willing to fail. With people on the phone or starting a company, if you’re afraid you’ll fail, you won’t get very far.”— Steve Jobs

Now, it wouldn’t be right if I didn’t try to break this down into digestible points of advice so here are three pieces of wisdom I’ve picked up on the matter of overcoming fear:

  1. Be an actionist - do the very thing that you fear.
  2. There are no perfect conditions.
  3. Think success, not failure - think win-win in any endeavour.
“Fear is a manipulative emotion that can trick us into living a boring life.” ― Donald Miller (A Million Miles in a Thousand Years)

Summary

Use action to cure fear and gain confidence. Only when you take action can you work on pursuing what you desire the most.

So, I’ve been up to something - and here it is! I redesigned my website and created my own little corner on the web.

I’ll be using it to share longer articles in the months to come and all of my book notes as well as resources I use to keep myself productive and mentally engaged.

If you’re into this whole minimalism-sphere and productivity headspace, then this man is no surprise. Here’s a recent YT video from Matt D’Avella that I resonated with where he speaks about the power of productive downtime and taking a “Deep Break”.
