Play long-term games.

Hey fam,

An ultra-short reminder this week; play long-term games.

This is a common line of advice amongst Twitter Think Bois and was coined by Naval in a podcast episode some time ago (or whoever coined it before Naval Ravikant).

Play long-term games with long-term people. All returns in life, whether in wealth, relationships, or knowledge, come from compound interest. — Naval

Playing long-term games refers to the idea of locking oneself in for the long haul and never expecting any sizeable achievement or success to appear overnight. Sounds simple but this is one thing many of us often fail to grasp, including me. We jump ships the instant something doesn’t go our way or we predict that we have failed before we’ve even allowed ourselves to get into the groove. But, these are the exact moments we need to remind ourselves that we’re here to play long-term games, and so we must carry on.

I am reminding myself this week and hopefully some of you that long-term games do indeed work. For example, in the first 2-months of writing this very newsletter, I had hardly any reach, little to no engagement, and very few subscribers. However, fast forward 49 weeks of regular weekly blogletters and my articles have now been read in total 43,619 times, interesting, at the time of writing this article, 875 super subscribers. For that I’m thankful to you, the reader — thank you.

So, the long-term game I’m playing is one that involves building an audience through sharing hopefully valuable insights and lessons. Although I’ve seen some progress in the last 11-months, I’m here for the long-run and do not expect anything remarkable to happen anytime soon. On that note, what long-term games are you playing?

PS — thoughts on the shorter format, yay or nay? hit reply.

Let’s keep growing! 🚀

This Week’s Recommendation 🚀

YouTube Video 🎬 — How this NFT sold for $69 Million (Beeple)

What the non-fungible is going on? Here’s a great video I watched earlier this week by Colin and Samir on something that has received a lot of hype lately, Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs). In this, they cover: What NFTs are, how they are being used, and a nice explanation of the story behind Beeple’s ‘overnight’ success involving $69m earned in a single NFT sale.
